When I was 8 years old, my mother gave me her old manual typewriter and immediately I was typing up my own stories while sitting on my bedroom floor. My whole life, I enjoyed writing for various outlets, having had several articles published. I never imagined I would write a book, though! When I began blogging about my cancer journey, what I thought was just a personal project quickly became the testing ground for the subjects that became "Round the Twist."

Round the Twist is a phrase which means someone has been driven mad, along the lines of "Calgon take me away!" I thought that this phrase was the perfect description of what I went through with cancer--the sigmoid colon (the "twist" of the large intestine) was where my cancer was located, and, let's face it, my life went crazy. You'll have to read the book to find out where the word "Abdominable" comes from!

I live in Chatsworth California, a small suburb of Los Angeles bordering on the wilderness of the Santa Monica Mountains, with my husband of 12 years, my son, and two rescue dogs. I am a professional musician who has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga for over 25 years, and am an avid hiker and trail runner. I credit my good physical health for helping me get through this ordeal.

Stage-4C colon cancer is the "last" stop on the staging scale. I was not expected to survive beyond 6 months, yet here I am, a year and a half later, with a book. I've learned to live one day at a time, because although today is a good day, I have learned that things can go sideways in the blink of an eye.
