Jon Kaledin was born and raised in Lexington, MA, just outside of Boston. Initially trained as a cellist and musicologist at Harvard University, he then attended New York University School of Law, and has worked as an environmental lawyer and non-profit executive. Dissonance is his first novel.
Family and friends recognize one thing about Jon: he has a book problem. It comes in part from growing up in an academic family with an enormous book collection. He also has a Red Sox problem. Want to know the starting lineup of the 1967 Impossible Dream Red Sox? Ask Jon.
Jon’s non-fiction writing has been extensive. It includes articles in The American Prospect, USA Today, Boston Globe, Philadelphia Inquirer, Albany Times-Union, and numerous other newspapers and journals throughout the U.S. He also co-edited and co-authored the textbook Water and Cities in Latin America: Challenges for Sustainable Development (Earthscan/Routledge, 2015).
Cape Cod holds a very special place in Jon’s heart. He spent many a summer vacation on the Cape, swimming well offshore into Cape Cod Bay, Nantucket Sound, and even out into the open Atlantic. That was before the arrival of apex predators to the Cape’s waters. Jon’s not willing to risk those swims anymore.
